Beds Beds Beds…..

I’ve been bed shopping this week as it’s time to replace the mattress on my slat bed.

In another life I used to sell furniture and slat beds, so I feel with my additional knowledge that I have as a chiropractor that I know enough to choose wisely. It’s still a tough decision when there are so many factors to consider; like what size? (Are you sharing it with littlies?), springs or latex? How big of a pillow top do I go for? Anti roll together?

What are the things you look out for when bed shopping, so that you don’t get swayed by the salesperson, the price or name of the bed?

  1. You can start with Dr Google or You tube clips to get an idea of what is out there in the market place.  Bed stores are a little daunting as there are so many beds to choose from, so if you go in with some idea this will help.
  2. We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed – so it makes sense to spend as much as you can afford on a quality bed (which incidentally should be replaced approximately every 10 years). Think about this when you are looking at the options available to you.
  3. After speaking with the salesperson who should be able to guide you to a few different models to try – Lie on them. Not just a quick lie, but a decent 10-15 minutes – lying in the sleeping positions that you normally sleep in.
  4. Go away and come back another day and do the same thing.
  5. Check with the sales person on the off chance that you really don’t like the feel of the bed when you get home that you can return it or exchange it.
